Celebrating the life of
Marguerite (Tinka) Harms Smith
February 07, 1952 - September 28, 2025
Tinka, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Hospital, surrounded by her close friends: Valerie Reynolds and Diane Miller.
Tinka was born in Savannah on February 7, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, located across the street from her father's grocery store, Harms Food Market. She was the only child of Henry Harms and Mary Courtenay Harms. Until very recently, Tinka was a lifelong resident of Savannah. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and St. Vincent’s Academy. In December 1977, Tinka married the love of her life, Leonard Smith. They shared 38 years together as a devoted couple until Leonard's passing in 2015.
Tinka had a varied career, with positions at Host South, Inc., an events planning company, Morgan Supply, and Consolidated Rigging. Though her passing was sudden, she left behind a legacy as a talented artist specializing in mixed media, establishing her own brand, TSDesigns - Acrylic Fluid Art.
Tinka loved her family deeply. Although she and Leonard never had children of their own, their home was always filled with the children of cousins and friends. They all cherished their time with "Aunt" Tinka and "Uncle" Leonard, as well as their beloved canine companions, primarily Chihuahuas.
Tinka will be deeply missed by her sweet dog, Stella, who had been her constant companion for over 9 years.
She is survived by her family members: William Harms, Lilly Harms, and Sister Susan Harms, RSM, and numerous cousins of the Harms family, as well as the Courtenay, Fennell, Leonard, and Edenfield families.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following the visitation at 11:00 a.m at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Tinka and Leonard will then be laid to rest in Greenwich Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tinka's memory to St. Vincent’s Academy or Renegade Paws Rescue.
Rest in Peace, my sweet friend.

Beautiful sweet Tinka was my first cousin once removed. Even though we had only developed a relationship over the last seven years I loved her dearly. She was a true kindred spirit to me. I could talk to her about anything and know that I would always have her support, empathy and compassion. She was one of the most unique people I've ever known and was never afraid to stand up for her beliefs and for the people she loved. I will truly miss her deeply as I know will so many others whose lives she touched. Fly with the angels beautiful Tinka, hand in hand with your beloved Leonard.

My heart is broken. Tinka was my first friend. Our parents were old friends and we shared so many Sunday nights and dinners together. Every year we watched the Wizard of Oz in my living room. We had lost touch after my father died and we moved away from Savannah. It was through FB that we found each other. We were planning to have a long phone visit as soon as she felt up to it.
